I can understand each side of the auto situation. I retired ten years ago from GM. Any one who has followed the industry over the last 30 years can tell you this situation was along time in coming. Did the domestics do many things wrong? Yes. Did it take them to many years to wake up? Yes. Do they deserve one last chance? Yes, if you believe the unemployment numbers, business foreclosures and general economic climate will worsen. No, if you believe a workable solution can come out of a bankruptcy filing. I do not believe the GOP is playing this issue right. I believe a better approach would be to force permanent tax relief for business in this country and or government support for advanced technology. A flat out NO is not the right answer, not after the financial sector was handed $700 Bil with little or no questions asked.
